What looks best to keep the elements out?

The siding of your house plays such a vital part in keeping the elements out of your home however, we don’t normally think about it until it either looks warped, discolored, or you think it no longer fits your style. When we are told that it needs to be replaced, or when your exterior just doesn’t have the look that we initially envisioned, only then do we think about what siding does as a part of the structure of our house and the curb appeal of your property. This is where Gold Standard Restoration can bring our expertise into play.

Our experienced team of professionals knows when the exterior of your home needs to be replaced and not only do we have the expertise for it, we also have a large variety of products and materials to select from. Should you choose to replace all of the siding surrounding your house?

We can have our home inspectors arrive and make a very accurate suggestion as to what will accent your entire home.

When we come to do an inspection, we will analyze every bit of the siding on your home exterior, and check to make sure there are no leaks or anything that may be problematic. When our highly trained experts sit down with you and your family to talk about the end result, we will provide you with every material available to us and give you a fair and accurate quote for all the materials, labor, and components to help make this new vision of your home a reality.

There is a wide array of options when selecting the type that will be best for your home. The key factors that you need to consider are your budget and style preference.

Types of Siding

Chicago
Siding

Vinyl

The most popular option when it comes to siding is Vinyl. This material is cost-effective, nearly maintenance-free, and offers a variety of styles and colors to fit your vision of your home. While vinyl may not last as long as more expensive materials like fiber cement, it is made to fit a majority of different styles and can improve the look and quality of your home exterior. Though cheap vinyl siding can crack, deteriorate, and fade, Gold Standard Restoration stands behind the quality of the materials we use and the manufacturers offer comprehensive warranties making vinyl a safe and budget-friendly option for your home.

Siding

Aluminum

Aluminum siding has been one of the most popular siding options on homes in our area for about thirty or forty years. Many homes here still have their old aluminum siding because it is a durable material that can withstand the elements. However, it is difficult to repair and will show dents very easily. Aluminum siding has one benefit over many of the other styles because it is recyclable, making it a good choice for eco-friendly homeowners.

Fiber Cement

One of the most asked about styles of siding is fiber cement. This durable siding often has the look of traditional wood siding but with added durability. If the traditional wood siding look is not your style, fiber cement can even be manufactured to look like clapboard and masonry. Fiber cement siding can add a beautiful aesthetic appeal to your home but can come at a premium price.

Made from a combination of clay, cement, sand, and wood pulp, fiber cement is resistant to rot, fire, and pest infestation, as well as will not expand or contract as much as the temperature changes.

Siding

Natural Wood

Many homes in this area have traditional or natural wood siding. There are lots of options as far as style is concerned and wood can be finished in about any way you would like. The downside of this is that natural wood will require a lot of upkeep. If you are looking for low maintenance this is not for you.

Enginereed Wood

As one of the newer types of siding available, there are often many questions about the benefits of engineered wood siding products like LP SmartSide, KWP, and TruWood. These materials are designed to provide the look of real wood with limited maintenance. Since these products are relatively new, on the market, about 20 years, there is not a lot of history on the durability of this siding and its ability to resist mold and rot. The benefit of this siding is that it is partially manufactured from recycled wood which makes it eco-friendly, as well as the low maintenance cost it offers.

What type of siding is right for me?

When you find yourself in the market for new siding there are many things you will need to consider before you find the right solution for your home. There is no “one size fits all option,” and you will need to find out what is most important for you.

Cost plays a key factor for most homeowners. Obviously, you don’t want to break the bank on siding replacement. Another factor is the value of the product. Will this product help lower heating and cooling costs? Maybe you are selling the home and want to increase your curb appeal? Or perhaps is this type of siding going to increase your property’s value? Before you make your decision, get in touch with Gold Standard Restoration so we can help you to evaluate your options and find the best solution for you for your home.
